Ajoupa Bouyon is a bitter-sweet love song in honour of Chabrèle’s lush Caribbean island of Martinique – a tropical paradise plagued with environmental scandals.

Singing in his native Créole, Chabrèle takes us on of a road and sea trip round the island’s 34 communes, tourist attractions and beach resorts.

Warning! This is not just a musical tourist excursion; Chabrèle’s intention is to ring alarm bells about certain islanders’ apathy, the political leaders’ lack of action over key issues such as chlordecone poisoning, sargassum invasion, toxic gas, power outages and rising prises.

In the refrain, Chabrèle and the backing singers call out:
Ki Mafouti é sa – What’s this big mess!

Specially dedicated to his parents: Paulette & Edouard Chabrèle, to his grandparents, uncles and aunts who used to say that.

Pierre Chabrèle composed and wrote the lyrics of AJOUPA BOUYON in the musical style he created – Classical Afro-Caribbean music.

Recorded, mixed and mastered in Paris with internationally renowned musicians and multi instrumentalist Chabrèle playing many of the instruments including steel pan.
